Dear St. Isidore Family,

Isn’t it amazing and sad how skewed news reporting is?  I am not talking one political party or the other.  I am talking about the focus on bad news and the virtual non-existence of good news.  Or, in the case of last weekend, ignoring the good and focusing on the bad.

Last weekend, January 22, was the 49th anniversary of the Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which as you probably know ostensibly made abortion legal across the country.  For decades now, people have been taking part in the March for Life in Washington and other major cities to raise awareness of this heinously evil act.  For just as long, the news has either completely ignored it, or skewed it as “anti-abortion,” because calling something “anti” automatically makes the viewer or reader turned off.  Even when they do talk about it, they often intentionally under-estimate the number of people there, again to make it sound less successful than it is.  We have even seen in recent years that, while they ignore the March for Life, they will herald other rallies from groups with far fewer people who are in support of something they deem acceptable.

Yet, the attempts by the media to downplay the Pro-Life movement do not deter us.  When you are convicted of the truth, nothing can stop you.  And we must know this truth, as we hear from the prophet Jeremiah this weekend, that God knows us and loves us from before we are even conceived.  It is that love that the Pro-Life movement stands for.  God does not make mistakes.  Even human is conceived for a purpose, and every human that is conceived is loved by God.  We continue to pray for the day when the most vulnerable among us, the ones who cannot defend themselves, are protected by our government.

God Bless, and please know you are in my prayers,

Fr. Michael
